Crown Molding and How To Install Crown Molding Dates Way Back

Until the middle of the 1800’s, most molding in America was made on the building site by carpenters who used hand planes, chisels and gouges.Imagine a time when everything was still make by hand. Wide pieces of trim, such as crown molding, were made in woodworking shops where large planes were pulled by apprentices under the guidance of master artisans. Installing crown molding is an art.

Depending on the size and style of a building, molding could be used to ornament almost all the interior architectural elements. By the 1850’s planning machines had been developed to produce molding on a large scale, at a much lower cost than handmade molding.  This made elaborate and sophisticated ornamentation available to all who wanted it in their homes  to create an infinite variety of complex three-dimensional profiles. Molding profiles could be easily changed with the fashion. Find yourself a home and decorate the way that is the best for you. I would love to share with you my ideas and I hope you can find some that we be helpful to you. Because

the difference between a man without a country and that of a man without a home is that the man without a country can have no home at all.I never really thought of it that way but even if a man has a country, it profits him little if he has no home.

Having a country and having a home are intimately connected. The more a man thinks of his country, the greater value he will put upon his home; and the greater the value he puts upon his home, the more he will think of his country.

To the American born and bred, his country amounts to a religion, not so much because of his devotion to the land of his birth but because of his profound belief in what America stands for.  Of all the methods to accomplish this result, the simplest, most direct, and most effective is to see that every man, who would make America his country, should build for himself a home.

If every American citizen, native as well as foreign born, could have some spot he could call his own, where he could cherish his  household fires upon the hearth it would be a better world. For  the concrete, visible embodiment and expression of all that the home means. Without it, the strong, enduring, and preservative sense of the true home instinct can not be aroused and developed. Building your own home is a great accomplishment and using your own home decorating ideas makes it personal to you.

Now let’s talk about what makes a great stylish home. I guess this really depends on what a person wants and what he can afford to spend. If you are building there are some things that you can add later and some that need to be added from the beginning. I am not the biggest fan of crown moldings, but they can help with some homes appearance. I stripped mine off actually once I moved it, because they looked a little old fashioned for my tastes.
